As the biggest film franchise of all time turns 40, here’s a few of brilliant Star Wars facts you might not know.

  1. The words “I have a bad feeling about this” are said in every Star Wars film.
  2. “Yoda” and “Yoda-like”, referring to a wise elder, appear in the Oxford English Dictionary.
  3. The second part of Darth Vader’s name is Dutch for “father”.
  4. One of the asteroids seen floating in outer space in The Empire Strikes Back is actually a potato.
  5. George Lucas’s birthday is not May 4 but May 14. Star Wars films have always been launched in the week after that date.
  6. The design of the Millennium Falcon spacecraft was based on a hamburger.
  7.  In The Phantom Menace Yoda has three toes. But in three later films he has four.
  8. Many of the buildings constructed to be used in shots of Tatooine are still standing in Tunisia. In fact, some of them are still used by locals.
